The black walnut slab came from a 250+ year old tree that grew just south of Independence Square, Missouri. When our Amish log supplier cut the tree down (due to disease) and started slicing it into slabs, a cannon ball fell out!

 

The tree was located where the first Battle of Independence was fought in 1862. Specifically, it was next to the historic Overfelt Johnston House, which was used as a hospital during the Civil War. The cannon ball was verified to havecome from the Confederate militia and currently sits in a musem in Missouri.
